SPATIAL EDUCATION . COM

ABOUT THE FOUNDER

Darren Llewellyn - B Ed, Grad Cert (Computing), Dip Eng (Civil), Dip SIS, M SSSI.

Spatial Education.com was started in response to overwhelming student enthusiasm for learning that involved the use of spatial technologies.  In 2006/2007, Devonport High School students under Darren's instruction, won State and National mapping awards conducted by the Spatial Sciences Institute (Australasia's peak-body).  During the course of their studies, students repeatedly made requests to continue their project work on  weekends and during school holiday breaks.  Such enthusiasm was testament to the educational gains to be had from using spatial technologies in the classroom.

With the generous support of many industry partners, the spatial technologies in schools initiative has already seen over 70 teachers and many hundreds of students trained in the use of spatial technologies.

With an extensive engineering background in mechanical maintenance and civil construction, Darren brings a wealth of real-world, authentic tasks to the classroom.  His programs afford students the opportunity to develop their understanding of the natural and constructed world, whilst extending their mathematical and science skills.

In 2008, he was named - National Design and Technology Teacher of the Year.
